Greg Anderson and the Summit Racing Pro Stock Racing team came into the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals in Dallas, Texas determined to bounce back from a disappointing race day last weekend in Charlotte. Although conditions were completely unlike those experienced at the last race, with fans and racers at the Texas Motorplex enjoying clear blue skies and temperatures in the mid-80s, the crew did not miss a beat, with Anderson posting the second-quickest time in each of the two sessions (behind his teammate Jason Line), with his 6.559-second, 210.67 mph pass in the evening placing him second midway through qualifying.
“We came down here looking to bounce back after our performance in Charlotte, and after one day, everything is going according to plan,” said Anderson. “Even though we were a little off on both runs today, our Summit Racing Pontiacs were still quicker than everyone else, so we can’t complain too much.
“Of course, with the temperatures expected to rise significantly tomorrow, today was more about securing a good starting spot for Sunday, we did that, with Jason on top and me right behind him in second, and if the forecast is correct, I don’t see anyone going quicker than a 6.55. It’s a nice luxury to have. That would also put us on opposite sides of the ladder, setting the table for race day exactly the way we wanted.
“But even if it is a lot warmer tomorrow, we should be fine. After all, we ran extremely well in the heat in Indy, so we should have the right tune-up and our cars will continue to be fast. So far, our program is right on schedule – what we need to do is see it through the weekend, going the distance on Sunday.”
