Someday, I'll be going to somekind of school. If they have a school for asphalt mods I'd like to go...being that that's what we are moving up to next season. |
dont need school to racing, in my opinion waste of cash, best way to learn is on the track, and for mods all you do is put it in high gear and go |
Oh I can see you're one of those guys Robby. "I'm 16 and have more racing experience then you do". I think you are gonna have a nice learning experience this season in the mods. As far as going to a school, I could look up a list of drivers that have attended driving schools in the past....Jeff Gordon for one. He went to FASTRAK to learn the proper way to drive a 3,400 lb racecar on asphalt. Yep, I guess he wasted his money because it just never worked out for that guy huh?
The school that I'm interested in teaches set up basics in a classroom and has you drive.
I'm always open to learning new stuff and shortening my learning curve.....it could take years to learn things on your own and just a few days if someone tells you what you are looking for. |
and the season has jsut begun and we already know alot about the car without going to a school, we got a setup book, been talking to more experienced drivers and the chassis manufacter for advice and now the car is setup perfect and is faster than ever, we put another guy in it on practice day and he proved that the car is VERY fast.
i love how i stat my opinion on driving school and it gets turned into somthing else and other people speak for me. dont even try to use somthing against me that i never said. |

Learning on your own will take some time compaired to getting ADVICE that you need to improve. I'd rather go somewhere and get hints, pointer and advice for a PROFESSIONAL, then to take it upon myself and never learn the right way. Everyone knows while they are driving, they think their doing no wrong...yea right! We all make the misteaks and need the guidance to improve our driving skills. The more seat time and good advice the farther you will go in your racing.
I dont care if you think it's a waste of money, thats youre opinion, but to me it doesnt matter, because my driving will show what I was taught, seeming my instructor has been racing for 27 years and has driven everything on wheels. So, I think I'll take that and keep it for what I need to race _________________ winggirl71 - Kristen

I agree you can't take a greenhorn that never turned a lap, send him to school and make him the track champion. Do I think school is important? NO I don't, it's amazing what I've learned already on my own. I also know how to set up my car and what it may need in a given situation. I know how it feels and how to change how it feels. But, I'm always willing to learn new things. Not long ago there weren't many people talking "moment centers", they were talking "roll centers". Many people just kept throwing springs in the car until it was right. Nowadays you can buy a computer program, enter certain details and "WHALLA" your car is setup and in alot of cases.....very fast. I want to understand the dynamics of a racing suspension and why it works. I want to be able to apply that to a racecar. It's not so much that I want to go to a driving school per se, it's more the knowledge about chassis dynamics.
Jerry you mentioned Gordon drove for several years before going to school. I'm sure he was thrown a learning curve going from sprints to full size stock cars. I'm sure the school helped to shorten his learning curve a little. You mentioned that Earnhardt never went to a formal driving school.......nope, he taught it!!!!!! lol
I'm sorry Robby for jumping ya........THE STRESS IS GETTING TO ME!
But I still wouldn't mind going to a school! _________________ Rob Gray

well all I know is I'M GLAD I went when I attended a school the first year I raced it helped me improve in so many ways than just learning by myself could ever do for me.
If you think seat time and self teaching is your thing? Fine, but for the rest of us who do want to learn by someone with expearence that will guide us the way we want, thats how we feel.
Plus the fact of saying it's a waste, well not to me. _________________ winggirl71 - Kristen

The more that I thought of this, it seems if rob or jared or even caleb would of started this thread you never would of commented the way you did here and you would of told them it was "cool".You need to let things go that you have against me, the hatred and the negativity, it's really getting old.
You learn from you dad, well for you thats your thing, but me, I'd rather get professional advice and have someone tell me truthfully what needs to be improved.I went to have a good time and learn and I did just that _________________ winggirl71 - Kristen

I was right and so were the many people I talked to about this. There's a difference between "attacked" and getting personal with a nother person and you seem to do this very well your "opinions" to some is just down right rude.like I've said before and I'll say it again..get over it _________________ winggirl71 - Kristen
