|
|
We have our first asphault race this weekend been running dirt for a year. Just curious to hear from the karters here that have ran both what the major differences are except for the fact the kart wil be cleaner
The tracks are the exact same size with just a bit more banking on the asphault. Do you have any advice on getting in or coming off or what happens if you get loose off or things like that.
What do you like better??

Fast - Smooth - and Clean pretty much sums it up for me... The kids like the speed of asphalt... but they like the loose slide feel of dirt...
On asphalt I have a tendency to let the karts be loose and they like it better that way... Big thing you will find is get that LR to break loose. Can look like the kart is handling great but engine temps will be thru the roof because it's binding up. Check you air pressures after being on the track, gonna build if the drivers are pushing it. Most times you will run lower RPM's too. That's what I have found, don't know if it's right... _________________ Arthur Neary

What Track are you running at?
What tires?
I've never run Dirt so take this for what it is, Gonna try it this year tho. Try going on to Youtune and see if there is any video from the track. If there is watch were they are entering and coming off. Get on 4cycle.com and ask some ?'s LOL Like Arthur said you want to be as smooth as possible. Take a walk around the Track when you get there and look for the scrape marks on the Track, that's were you want to be. |

Well i never ran a kart before but i can give you the littlest advice i can go fast turn left and think about the movie cars if your going fast enough left you will find yourself turning right
Also forget what everyone else is doing and do your own thing and have fun first and foremost |

Blah,Blah,Blah,Blah... We ran Dirt Saturday and Pavement Sunday... Saturday kart needs alot of cleaning, tire prepping etc... Not to mention muddy truck and trailer from the pits... Pavement karts need fuel and oil, motorhome stayed clean... _________________ Arthur Neary

We went to asphalt last year , what I found was setup needed to be looser ,less cross, more left, more negative caster. We tried 600 left rear but went to 4.50 kept it from getting tight. You can control entry with camber on left front , adjust it to get you in but not pull you to the bottom . You want to be able to go to bottom but not force you there. A lot harder tires Best tires in order Firestones Dunlops never tryed Vegas but some people say their the best . If you have to run Burris use 55's outside 44's inside . Hope this helps _________________ GIZZY RACING TEAM |

Figured I'd post a follow up since I started this thread. Thanks for all the advice it really helped.
I have to say I am torn between asphault and dirt. I like dirt because of the drifting and the copmpettion aspect regarding tires. Doesn't matter how new or old your chassis is or how good your motor is when you race on dirt If you ain't got your tires right forget it and I love my tires.
I do like the speeds on asphault and so did Zach. I liked that you can run two or three wide and not worry as much about staying in a groove. I liked not having to clean everything I own when we got done. I like the fact that a set of Maxxis EL's will last me all year and I do not have to clean them that much during the race day.
There is just something about the dirt. Zach and I both can't really say why but we just love dirt track racing. Just seems more exciting for some reason. I don't know maybe it's cause i used to eat dirt as a kid
Anyway we finished 3rd in the heat and the feature out of 8. Not a bad day for the first time. We had a push coming off all day we could not correct but we will be ready for the May race.
Here is a link to the video of the race. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uTA3OF2T0M4
Thanks again for the advice
